Martial Arts Community Casts a Wide Net

I think that our contacts in the wider martial arts community are a great opportunity for us to spread the word and get as many people to take part as possible. Our comrades from other martial arts styles may well not have the reservations and embarrassments that a complete newcomer to martial arts may have. And of course, they will have their own contacts. I have a good feeling about this. I think it will balloon exponentially as we get closer to the event.

What are Breakthrough Saying?

Katie Arkle, Breakthrough Breast Cancer Events Executive says, "Breakthrough Breast Cancer are delighted to be benefiting from the Biggest Ever Tai Chi Event, a brilliant new fundraising event to attempt to beat the world record for the most number of people taking part in a Tai Chi lesson at the same time. All the money raised from this fantastic event on 25th July 2010 will go towards saving lives and changing futures of those people affected by breast cancer through research, campaigning and education.'

I suggest that the only hope of reaching the target is to re-direct the publicity - people from outside the limited Tai Chi community will come to cotribute to a charity but are not interested in promotions for Tai Chi clubs. So the emphasis should be " In aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, join an attempt on the Tai Chi world record - - "
I notice we're not mentioned on the Breakthrough website yet. I personally would be happier if they were involved both nationally and locally not only in promoting the event but also handling the contributions.
I acknowledge the initiative and hard work needed to start the project, but feel that the poster will not do the job required -1. too much stress on Re-vitalise + our own clubs: 2. Womad is not relevant for the vast majority of the people we need to recruit: 3. Top billing should be Cancer Charity Fundraiser.

The Tai Chi World Record

On Sunday 25th July 2010 at 11.00am in the morning, Tai Chi instructors across the country will be running a multi location Tai Chi lesson. This will be open to both beginners and experienced alike. The record for this type of event is 33, 996. We are aiming for 40,000 participants.
Each person taking part is being asked to donate just £1. The money will go to Breast Cancer research through the registered charity, breakthrough. If you would like to take part but aren't yet registered, find your local Tai Chi club and ask them if they are holding a session for this event. If they are then you can join in there. If they aren't, they may be interested in joining in? They can join in by contacting me on the contact adress below.
